Stichting Jarige Job (freely translated: “Birthday Boy Foundation”) is a foundation that provides children from low income families with free birthday gifts. Each child receives a box filled with goodies. The products in the boxes are donated by companies and individuals and packed and distributed by volunteers. Jarige Job is located in the “Van Nelle Fabriek”: the former factory of Van Nelle; a Dutch coffee brand. Their office serves as a warehouse where the boxes are packed and shipped. I visited during one of their speed dating events during which you get to speed-date while packing boxes. This way you contribute to their cause and it’s a nice and informal way of getting to know someone without the ackward setting usually associated with speed dating. I had a lot of fun and they really had an impressive sideshow going on with a foodtruck, drinks, candy, snacks and a DJ.

Looking for a reason to give this place a better rating. I received a notification that I need to pick up my Residence Permit at this location. But I need to pay €90 for a 10 minute appointment to COLLECT something the IND has prepared? I will ammend my rating if I get good advice on how to change this location, as I never even chose Rotterdam.

DO NOT USE FOR COLLECTION! I used the centre as my pick up point for residency cards, but you have to pay almost a €100 just to collect the card, blatant theft for 1min work. Use The Hague, it’s free.

We’ve fostered five dogs for SDE and have had positive experiences so far. The dogs have all gone to incredible families. The volunteers running the foundation work 24×7. They’re very responsive but communication style could be improved.

After reading reviews I decided to put our own experience with this company, we found them to be very attentive and friendly. Although the dog we initially wanted was no longer available we were given so many more options of dogs that would suit our lifestyle and housing. Bella has been with us for 3 months now and we couldn’t imagine our life without her. Although our situation may be slightly unique our experience was nothing but positive!!

An absolute horrible experience! If you’re looking at this right now, I would read the reviews below if you dont believe me. I applied to be a foster mom for a rescue for the same reason everyone has: I love dogs and I like helping. Within three days of applying, they have set an appointment with me in three separate occasions whereas in all occasions they did not proceed with the call because either forgot or they were too busy with something else. Sure. I’m not a difficult person. Reschuled for the third time. A day before the intake they message me to ask if a dog can stay with me which i agreed to. Some random guy arrives at my residence with 4 dogs with no woman that i was supposed to talk to. HE JUST DUMPED THE DOG AT MY HOUSE AND WAVED GOOD LUCK. Now, I love dogs but I haven’t had experience with traumatized dogs which they probably would’ve known IF THEY DID AN INTAKE AND PROPER INTRODUCTION TO THE DOG. One day in, I ask the two women in charge with names Sandra and Jessica that i would like the dog to be picked up asap as the dog was very difficult and for me lacking experience, I couldnt help the dog. She was too frightened by people, my house, and going outside. I kept on messaging these two women who is supposed to be the one in charge but no response. Ignored messages. I tried calling the phone number given on their website. No one answers. And if I do get an answer from my request to get her picked up, I was either given a “just deal with it” or “no there will be no pick up”. And here I am now writing the second review I have ever written in my whole life because these people are not mindful of their volunteers. I wanted to help, but now I am forced to keep a dog I cant take care of. Even when I told them clearly, only one week. They wont make a solution to help me out while I have helped them out too. I honestly have told them I do not have the capability of taking care of this specific dog and they ignored it. See all the screenshots of message below for proof on how inconsiderate this organization is with their volunteers, taking advantage of the kindness of other people push their own agenda to keep the dogs at the fosters’ when the fosters themselves cant keep them there anymore. I will make it my life’s mission to spread the word and also in all social media platforms and groups that these people are to not be trusted. And although it breaks my heart that I will post this review which might make it even more difficult to get those doggos adopted. I just want to also protect people like me who have had the same experience.

AVOID!!!

Absolutely avoid this organisation at all costs. They portray themselves as saviours of animals taken off the streets, but it’s just a money-making scheme. They lure you in with promises of saving animals, but behind the facade lies a heartless machine that has zero interest in animal welfare.

Firstly, they promised a 2-week window to change my mind about adoption, but it turned into a supposed 4-month waiting list to have the dog re-fostered. The dog I adopted suffered severe separation anxiety, likely from the trauma of being shuffled around like merchandise. Despite promises, finding her a new foster family was apparently difficult, while they kept uploading new dogs daily for adoption and fostering. They showed no signs of helping the dogs that needed rehoming from their initial adoption with the organisation.

They’re quick to take your money but slow to address issues. Before I even met with the foster family, as soon as I put the phone down they sent me a payment request on Tikkie, a red flag I chose to ignore.

Due to the dog’s character and neediness, I had to take unexpected time off work, and even my landlord threatened eviction because of the noise disturbances from the dog. The organisation showed zero urgency or care. Even the foster family who had her before was shocked at the lack of interest in making sure she would be rehomed.

They have no idea what the characters of these animals are, and going off previous reviews, I am not the first one to mention this. They take these dogs off the streets, advertise, allow you to pick them up, take your money, and the rest is your problem. I’ve never seen such a lack of empathy and humanity in a “non-profit organisation”; it’s disgusting.

After mentioning the previous reviews to the woman in charge, she said they were all lies… and threaten to block unsatisfied customers. They threatened to block me after I asked why my dog wasn’t being posted on their social media to help be rehomed, instead only the new puppies were being posted – the ones they can still make money from.

A foster family reached out to take the dog from me but unfortunately something came up and they had to cancel – the organisation didn’t even get in contact with me about the cancellation of the foster family.. I had to find out just as I was leaving the house with the dog.

This organisation is known to local vets and other organisations as being a dodgy puppy dealer so do your research before choosing these guys.

This organisation caused nothing but stress!

We tried to adopt a puppy and while we understand someone else got it, the communication from the organisation was very bad, promising to let us know for days and we never heard back. Might have been just one person having a bad week, but it definitely makes us question whether we would adopt with this organisation in the future.

Nobody likes becoming homeless and the way the city runs things are out of order in Rotterdam but to no fault of the people that work here, they simply have to play by the rules of the city and they are doing a great job within their power to provide as much help they can, which again is not a whole lot. But at least they try and do so with a friendly word and a smile. They helped me tremendously in the past within the boundaries they can manoeuvre in. Great people.
